Osmo natural oil woodstain colours are ideal for any wood in the exterior: doors, windows and window shutters (dimensionally stable), carports, timber cladding, balconies, wooden decking, gates, pergolas, garden furniture and summer houses (non-dimensionally stable).
Osmo natural oil woodstain colours provide primer and wood stain in one finish. Osmo natural oil woodstain is water-repellent and highly weather and UV-resistant. Osmo natural oil woodstain colours produces a microporous and breathable surface. The coating is protected against mould, algae and fungal attack.
Up to 26m² per litre.
Preparation:
Ensure surfaces to be treated with Osmo Woodstain are clean, dry and frost-free prior to application (moisture content max. 20°C).
-Existing oil finishes should be lightly sanded and cleaned before application
-Existing coatings such as paint and varnish must be fully removed by sanding or stripping back to bare wood
-Remove sanding dust thoroughly from the surface with a brush or vacuum cleaner before application
-Use white spirit to degrease and remove surface contaminates if required
-Any traces of green growth or mould should be treated and removed
-Fill any holes or gaps with exterior gap sealer
-Revive any greyed or sun damaged wood with wood reviver gel
-Any end grain can be sealed with an end grain sealing wax
-If additional protection against blue stain, rot and insects is desired, pre-treat the wood, if possible on all sides
Application:
Always do a test area before starting any project to assess product suitability and final finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the tin at all times. Stir thoroughly before and periodically during application.
1. Apply Osmo wood stain thinly and evenly along the wood grain with a soft tip brush or a microfibre roller and spread well
2. Work the oil into the surface grain of the wood
3. If possible, apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation to offer the best all-round protection
4. Wipe off any excess oil from the surface of the wood with a clean, lint-free cloth
5. Allow the first coat to dry for 4-6 hours
6. Apply a second coat using the same method as the first
Please Note: Rough sawn timber is more absorbent, meaning coverage per litre will be greatly reduced.
Regular Cleaning:
For the regular cleaning of exterior wooden surfaces, use an exterior spray cleaner.
Maintenance:
If surfaces show signs of wear or a loss of weather resistance over time, simply clean and add a maintenance coat of Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain to the existing finish.
Do not use or store in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.

Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is suitable for a wide range of wood surfaces, including exterior wood cladding, decking, fences, doors, windows, and interior wood furniture. It can be used on both softwoods and hardwoods.
Before applying the woodstain, ensure that the wood surface is clean, dry, and free from dust and contaminants. Stir the product thoroughly before and during use. Apply a thin and even coat using a brush or roller, following the wood grain. Allow the first coat to dry, typically within 12-24 hours, and then apply a second coat if necessary.
Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is suitable for use on bare wood, but it can also be used to refresh previously treated wood surfaces. It is important to ensure that any previous coatings or finishes have been removed or are in good condition before applying the woodstain. Test a small area or consult the manufacturer's guidelines for compatibility with existing treatments.
Yes, Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is designed to be used both indoors and outdoors. It provides excellent weather resistance and protects the wood from UV radiation, moisture, and other environmental factors. However, it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding application and maintenance to ensure the best performance.
The durability of Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain depends on various factors such as the wood type, weather conditions, and the level of wear and tear. Generally, it offers long-lasting protection and requires less frequent maintenance compared to traditional wood stains. It is recommended to periodically check the condition of the wood surface and reapply the woodstain as needed.
Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is a self-sufficient finish that does not require an additional top coat or varnish. However, if desired, a clear top coat such as Osmo Polyx-Oil can be applied over the woodstain for added protection or a different sheen. It is recommended to test compatibility and follow the manufacturer's instructions when combining different products.
Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain is considered safe for use on surfaces that come into contact with food or children's toys once it has fully cured. However, it is important to allow the product to dry and cure completely according to the manufacturer's instructions before exposing it to such situations. Always follow the specific recommendations and safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
